Until recently it was impossible to import
your dog or cat into the United Kingdom, without
the pet having to remain in quarantine for six months.
With
an increase in the number of Britons purchasing
holiday homes abroad, and the ease and
affordability of travel to Europe, it was only a
matter of time before the very strict quarantine
regulations would be revised to allow pets to
travel along with their owners for a holiday too.
However, a pet passport requires much more
than a photograph and a paw print signature. The
whole process takes a minimum of seven months to
complete, and should ideally be started before
you have even booked your holiday!
History
Dogs are part of the Canidae, a family including
wolves, coyotes and foxes, thought to have evolved 60
million years ago. Domestic dogs are derived directly
from wolves which entered villages in the Northern
Hemisphere in search of food about 12,000 years ago.
People exploited them for their own needs, such as to
guard, herd and hunt. Particular characteristics were
selected, which has resulted in the huge diversity of

Pet ban for man who starved

A man who starved a dog and
then abandoned it has been banned from keeping
pets for five years.
James Burns, 30, from Dundee, admitted causing
his three-year-old German shepherd "unnecessary
suffering" by failing to feed her.
Lead Training your Dog
Teaching a dog to walk nicely on the lead without pulling
can be the most difficult part of training a dog. It can
be very frustrating for owners to have a dog that pulls
like a train, drags on the end of the lead like a sack of
potatoes, or stops to sniff at every lamppost. So much so,
